Одна из сильнейших британских прог-групп образовалась в Лондоне в 1968 году. У истоков "Yes" стояли два бывших участника поп-команд "The Warriors" и "The Syn", вокалист Джон Андерсон (р. 25 октября 1944) и бас-гитарист Крис Сквайр (р. 4 марта 1948). По объявлению в "Melody Maker" они нашли ударника Билла Бруфорда (р. 17 мая 1949), а чуть позже состав был доукомплектован гитаристом Питером Бэнксом (р. 15 июля 1947) и клавишником Тони Кэем (р. 11 января 1946). Новым гитаристом стал Стив Хоу (р. 8 апреля 1947; экс-"Tomorrow"), добавивший дополнительной сложности в произведения "Yes". Кстати, если в своих первых двух работах группа использовала каверы, то третий опус полностью состоял из собственного материала. Пробивший британскую десятку "The Yes Album" продавался очень неплохо, однако это не помешало уходу Кэя (впоследствии составившего компанию Бэнксу в проекте "Flash"). Место за клавишами занял музыкант-виртуоз Рик Уэйкман (р. 18 мая 1949), пришедший в "Yes" из "The Strawbs". И если Кэй ничего не хотел знать кроме своего "Хаммонда", то Уэйкман сразу же ввел в обиход синтезатор "Minimoog", меллотрон, электроклавесин и ряд других девайсов.

Альбом "Fragile", показавший рост интереса музыкантов к классическим структурам, принес группе мировую славу, а композиция "Roundabout" стала одной из самых известных вещей "Yes". Также с этой пластинки началось долговременное сотрудничество команды с художником-оформителем Роджером Дином. На следующем альбоме четко обозначилась любовь коллектива к длинным эпическим композициям, растягивавшимся если не на целую сторону диска, то хотя бы на ее половину. Амбициозный "Close To The Edge", равно как и его предшественник, имел большой успех и попал в горячую десятку по обе стороны Атлантики. Незадолго до его релиза Бруфорд перебрался в "King Crimson", а освободившееся место занял экс-участник "Plastic Ono Band" Алан Уайт (р. 14 июня 1949). В 1973-м группа выпустила две монументальные работы: тройной (!) концертник "Yessongs" и студийный двойник "Tales From Topographic Oceans", состоявший из четырех околодвадцатиминутных треков. Оба альбома имели огромный успех, а последний достиг верхней строчки в британских чартах. Уэйкман же остался недоволен "Tales...", и после релиза ушел в автономное плавание.

Записав с таким же виртуозным как Рик, но гораздо менее шоуменистым Патриком Моразом (р. 24 июня 1948) альбом "Relayer", участники "Yes" занялись выпуском сольников. Лишь в 1977 году группа, воссоединившаяся с Уэйкманом, продолжила деятельность. Несмотря на самый расцвет панка, коллектив выдал два вполне успешных альбома, "Going For The One" и "Tormato", где вернулся к укороченному песенному формату. В 1980-м ушли Андерсон и Уэйкман, и по предложению Сквайра в состав были приняты вокалист Тревор Хорн (р. 15 июля 1949) и клавишник Джефф Даунс (р. 25 августа 1952). В середине 90-х в команду вместо Кэя и Рабина возвратились Уэйкман и Хоу, однако записанные с ними студийные концертники "Keys To Ascension" и "Keys To Ascension 2" также не добавили популярности "Yes". Лишь после очередной провальной студийной работы ("Open Your Eyes") группа вернула себе фирменный саунд и расположение фанов с альбомом "The Ladder". В конце 90-х в ее составе успели побывать Билли Шервуд (гитара, клавишные) и Игорь Хорошев (р. 14 июля 1965), но в 2000 году они оба ушли. Начало нового тысячелетия коллектив встретил альбомом "Magnification", записанным по примеру "Time And A Word" с участием оркестра (хотя и без официального клавишника). В 2002-м в команду в очередной раз вернулся Уэйкман, но через пару лет из-за увлеченности музыкантов сольными и делами и болезни Андерсона деятельность "Yes" заглохла. Оживление началось в 2008-м – тогда группа отправилась в посвященный своему 40-летнему юбилею тур с Оливером Уэйкманом на клавишных и канадцем Бенуа Давидом у микрофона.
