Настоящее имя: Гордон Мэттью Самнер (Gordon Matthew Sumner).
Родился: 2 октября в 1951 г. в портовом городе Ньюкастл-апон-Тайн - крупном индустриальном центре на севере Англии.
Отец: Эрнест Мэтью Самнер (Ernest Matthew Sumner) долгие годы работал монтажником в местной машиностроительной компании. Позднее он приобрел небольшой молочный магазин.
Мать: Одри (Audrey) работала парикмахером и медсестрой.
